Steps to Installing a Home Solar
System
A home solar system can cost you a lot of money, often
costing several thousands of dollars. However, choosing the
right solar powered for home will save you from huge electric
bills, increase the value of your home, and also help
stop global warming.
So, before you jump in and buy a home solar system, you need
to spend some time doing research and analysis on what system
is required for your home.
Here are a few very important things to consider before
setting up your solar powered system.
What is your current energy consumption?
If you don't know the answer to this question then need to
get a good understanding of your current energy consumption.
You need to understand how much energy you are using in order
to work out how much you can save with a home solar system.
A solar power system is a great alternative energy source
that will lower your energy bills, but need to understand by
how much. There are many variations of renewable sources
of energy, like solar power, but there are certain things you
can do before to maximize there effectiveness.
The first thing you need to know is how much energy you are
using. Most of us will be paying our electric bills each
month without ever really examining how much we are spending.
The bills will generally go in upwards direction year after
year.
Due to increasing costs of energy production and decreasing
levels of oil and gas, we can only expected this cycle of price
increases to continue.
So, dig out your bills and work out how much you are
spending per year for your electricity. It's also a good idea
to ask friends, family, and neighbors how much they are
spending on electricity to workout if your bills are higher or
lower than similar houses in your area.
If the case is that you are consuming way more energy than
you should, you should first work at lowering you household
energy consumption before installing a home solar system.
For a start you can make these low cost energy
savings:
- Replace any standard lightbulbs in your house with
energy saving lightbulbs.
- Install low powered fluorescent lights where
possible.
- Use timers to automatically switch off
lights.
- Use garden solar lighting instead of lights than run
off your mains power.
- Unplug all electronic equipment when not in use (DVD
players, TVs, satellite/cable equipment, etc).
- Switch off any computers when not in use and set them
to automatically shutdown after a short period of no
use.
- If you plan to replace any old appliances with new
ones, make sure you buy the most energy efficient models
available.
Now before you have invested in a solar powered energy
system you have already reduce your energy consumption and
reduced your energy bills. Without investing much money
you have already started saving.
The money you are now saving can be used towards purchasing
a home solar system, which when installed will make you even
better money savings by reducing your energy consumption even
further.
After taking these steps you should significantly reduce
your energy consumption, hopefully to a point where you install
a home solar system that can truly power your home. Not
only are you making great saving on you monthly energy bills,
you are also helping do your bit to save the
environment.
