Next Generation of Cheap Solar Cells
****Since all the comments seem to be either 100% positive or 100% negative about this solar technology i would like to clear up some some misconceptions. First of all I’d imagine that takes years to set up the the precision equipment for 2 of the largest solar panel manufacturing plants in the world and be able to print solar photo cells as fast as newspaper. After the plant was completed in 2007 the first focus was on commercial uses and their first costumers where municipal utility companies. This sounds to me like a good business tactic to help you establish a successful business from the start. Next they started offering it to electrical contractors as part of a beta testing process so they can work out the kinks that arise from scaling down their panels from large commercial ones to the ones that you can use on your house. That is where were at today. After the beta testing they will start offering them to the general public. Their website even has a place to enter your email address to be notified when this technology will be available to you the home owner. Its a process and that apparently some people out there believe happens over night. This company immediately got more financial backing then needed. Google is one of the biggest investors so I believe its all legitimate. There are two benefits from the use of alternative energy. @kimmer6 I was speaking with a professor at my university about this recently.. those are already on the market. They are going to cost a little more but I think he said something like an 8 year pay back…

@elbeghast Well you wrote that comment 11 months ago and already solar panels are $1.80 a watt. I’m making 8 to 10% of my total power per day from just 2 solar panels. What I hate is when someone, who knows nothing about the subject, makes a comment as if they are the end-all and be-all of the topic. Solar is very viable, very cheap compared to how long it lasts (25+ years) and with Federal, State and local governments helping out many of us are now making our own power with 5 year paybacks.
OK, make roofing shingles coated with this and have them plug into a plastic frame that can be screwed to a roof. Have inexpensive volt/current processers every few feet to eliminate shady spots from dragging the system down and produce optimum output. Crappy shingles with tar, fiberglass, and grit cost me $20k and do nothing but cook my attic. I would gladly pay more to produce power and insulate the roof from heat. Somebody hurry up and make some!
This shit is stupid, go make your own hot water heaters or air heaters and cut your energy costs that way.
The Oil companies are trying their best to stop free energy ideas from spreading to common people.
We need to put an end to this corruption ,start generating your own electricity now.

@rush3734 Tells you a lot when the a company wont use its own product. You would think they would use seconds and repaired damaged cells on their roof just as an advertisement. Also you would think they would sell power to the electric company so they would have reduced costs on all those Saturdays and Sundays. How bout selling power when the factory is not producing to pay the rent?
what about health/environment hazard, are these materials safe for use?
if it will be used large scale i am sure a lot of this will end up in our environment, nano – can be cancerous.
China has announced it is getting into the biz.. Before you know it, you will be able to purchase these at your local Wal Mart.. hahaha Wal Mart… Well , I do not know f they will be sold there,, However, I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED if they sold them in the future
Just like with any industry, the better,the more money they want. I have no desire to believe this. Just like with digital information. IE:Internet. All it has done is go WAY up in price for cable and phones.When will we ever learn.This solor technology is for rich people, the people that need it the least, and it will always be that way. Also, they need CHEAP ass battery CELLS to store it with. Inverters and circuit boxes to integrate into home circuits. Its horrible expensive.
@stonecoldjason Some of us NEED larger vehicles. We don’t want them, we NEED them! Some of us have equipment to carry, others are handicapped and need the extra room for wheel chairs, etc. If I could get all of our film equipment in a small car, I’d much rather drive that! But there’s just no way to get broadcast cameras, lighting, sound, and associated equipment, plus a small crew into a little car. Lighten up until you know the whole story.
